Aquilegia Crimson Star

Aquilegia, also known as Columbine or Granny’s Bonnet grows very well in the North East of Scotland.

A hardy perennial that is known not to be very long lived. However our cooler climate seems to suit Columbines and they tend to survive a year or two longer here than they do south of the border.

One colourful specimen Crimson Star, has carmine red flowers with a white corolla. Flowering June/July, this plant will make a welcome addition to any border.

Regarding longevity of Aquilegia I have found that those of a very deep blue colour survive the longest, often six years plus.

Position – Full sun/Partial shade

Hardiness – Fully hardy perennial

Height – 90cm

Common name = Grannys Bonnet
