Holmes Chapel Cheshire
We moved to Holmes Chapel Cheshire at the end of November 2013. The village is deservedly regarded as being very desirable
As much as I may sing the praises of Holmes Chapel today, the post is really about our front garden.
In the late Summer of 2016, a note came through the front door telling us that the judges looking for the best front garden in the village had visited on three occasions.
To our surprise, we had been awarded the honour of best front garden in the village.
The once small village has expanded over the past thirty years and currently has a population of around 6000, set to rise more with current house building. (village website)
The early 1980s saw the start of the big housing development. Residents were so fond of the area few of them moved on resulting today in a higher than average population of elderly people.
On the doorstep of Holmes Chapel is home to the world-famous Lovell telescope (Jodrell bank)
We moved back to Scotland in 2017. However, Holmes Chapel, I will remember with great fondness.
I have shown a few pictures of our award winning garden in Holmes Chapel, well it doesn’t really compare to our Aberdeen garden. Take a look at this post, sorry for the self-indulgent title Pursuit of perfection.
In February of 2017, we moved to a small village in East Fife. The new build bungalows exterior has that rugged Scottish look that on first glance makes you think, hmm, not bad. However, the interior is very modern and just what you would expect for modern living. The garden areas, all planted up looked quite good in Summer and drew a fair bit of interest from other residents. Given a bit more time I hope to improve this greatly.
The medium sized housing complex with villas and bungalows will be completed by April. The general appearance is kind of concrete jungle at the moment. So many decided not to have a front garden and have all paved instead. With the cream walls and red-tiled roofs, my grandson said it reminded him of Egypt.
We seem to have the only house with trees, if others supply a tree I will be only too happy to plant it for them.
