In spite of the very cold spring, did you notice how well the cherry trees flowered, albeit a little later than usual. Also at the moment, I notice that the Rowan Trees are laden with flowers, which means there will also be more berries. Still on the subject of flowering trees, I have to say that I have never seen the Laburnums do so well. This year even those which have been planted in positions which exclude sunlight for much of the day are flowering well. I am no expert, but perhaps these trees to give their best prefer a slow start to the season, mind you spring this year was a bit too wintry for me.
Laburnums if you have noticed that the flower panicles on your tree are shorter and less spectacular than those which you have seen in other gardens,it is not a sign that your tree is less happy with the situation that it has been planted in, or struggling with poor nutrients in the soil. It is all to do with the variety, best one of all is Laburnum Vossii, a definate show off.
