I am keen to do an A to Z of all the plants in our garden, Clematis is sure to take pride and place in this section. One late flowering variety which is interesting and well worth growing is Triternata Rubromarginata. This vigorous Clematis has been given the Royal Horticultural Society’s prestigious Award of Garden Merit for outstandning excellence, raised in eighteen sixty two It produces masses of small almond scented white flowers with red edges from mid August till early autumn. Pruning is easy with late flowering Clematis, cut back the stems to a pair of strong buds six to ten inches above ground level before growth begins in early spring, from late February till the end of March. This type of pruning makes late-flowering clematis useful for training into shrubs, trees and climbing roses, as less of a burden is made on the host plant.
