Thursday November 16th

Decided to plant an Azalea in place of  the Hamamelis Mollis which was removed from the round garden.

A trip to Ben Reid’s nursery today produced the result. (Azalea Luteum) Sweetly scented, yellow, funnel shaped blooms in May and June and mid green leaves, which in autumn give a dazzling show of vivid reds and orange. This vigorous, deciduous azalea looks great planted in a mixed border with other evergreen trees or shrubs, acid soil is essential and a preference is for a semi shaded situation in moist yet free draining soil.

We just noticed today, considering the time of year when so many Garden Centres are completely taken over with Christmas goodies that Ben Reid is a true Nursery. The place was simply packed with fresh stock of evergreens, Deciduous shrubs and trees of all description. If you are in the process of having your garden landscaped, pay them a visit, I promise, you will not be disappointed. Also the staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
