After the success of winning best front garden this year, its time to decide what we are doing next year.
We do have a lot of permanent planting, however it is done in such a way that plenty border space is available for annual planting.
Here is what we have decided for next summers display. Two of the borders make up an L shape, these two will be mirror planted with Yellow non stop Double flowering Begonias, (dead centre of these two borders.)
At either side of these and encroaching upon the yellow flowers will be Red Flamboyant Begonias. These make a magnificent show with their large and numerous bright single flowers which virtually engulf each individual plant to the extent that by mid summer no foliage remains visible.
Next to these will be a Lilac or pale mauve Impatiens, an edging of Pale blue Lobelia and white Alyssum will almost complete the bedding. A final touch with dot plants will finish it off nicely. For this we will use Perilla, its striking dark red/purple foliage looks absolutely amazing against most annual displays. It is wise not to overdo the dot plants or else the whole effect can be ruined.
The remaining two borders which have more permanent plants, will still however be planted up carefully with Begonias and Impatiens, and also edged with the Alyssum and Lobelia.
Plenty baskets and containers planted up will add that bit extra which hopefully will give pleasure to all who passes by our garden. I hope that what we have decided for our garden may give you some help with your own. Mind you in spite of these plans for the front, we are actually considering entering the back garden next summer, but thats another story.
