Introduced 8 years ago, is proving to be a very valuable late summer/autumn flowering Perennial.
Similar in habit to the red Cardinalis variety, except this one is fully hardy and also with purple flowers of an unusual shade.This is truly a lush lobelia with vivid plum purple flowers held along the length of sturdy upright flowering stems. Long rather lance shaped mid green leaves arch out from the flowering stem.
The plant stands around 90 cm/3ft high with a 30cm (1ft) spread. This is the plants sixth year in our garden, and it has grown stronger since planting, so no concern about its hardiness. Must be regarded as one of the best recent introductions.

Many years ago I kept freshwatertropical fish, the usual Guppies,Neons Gouramies, Platies, etc/ Like many interests we have over the years I fell away from it. Now, some twenty five years later, a friend who is updating to the keeping of marine tropical fish kindly offered her biube tank plus the fish to me. Now the picture does not do it justice, but in fact it looks fantastic and a great talking point.

The gravel at the base of the tank is supplied and is referred to as the ceramic media, the beneficial bacteria thrive on the highly porous surface of this. The unique filtration system consists of a highly efficient cartridge which traps waste and uneaten food particles. It is suggested that this cartridge should be replaced every six to eight weeks. This is very simple to do and is done along with a partial water change of 25% which should be done every three weeks.
The cartridges you may find to be a little expensive at about £6.25 each, costing less when bought in bulk. A cheaper option is available if you opt for compatables, available from biorb compatibles
When setting up a new tank, it really is essential that you follow the instructions to the letter and definitely not to be tempted to add the fish too soon.

That’s a great looking fish tank. Reading that yet another plant has “Hadpsen” in the name made me go and google, so at least I now know it is the name of a nursery that produces lots of new plants, including my favourite Astrantia. That lobelia looks beautiful am very tempted to give it a go, but already have more plants than I have room for…

Very nice! I have an aquarium back at my country. My parents take care of it now, it was always great seeing the little fish swimming around. I have considered having one here, but maybe when i am more established.
It’s great to see fish on a garden blog! I’ve been an avid aquarist on and off for years (at one point we had 9 tanks — the largest was 150 gallons). I like that cylindrical tank, I hope it does well for you!
